In-flight Wisdom Courtesy Of Gandalf

“I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.” -Frodo

“So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” -Gandalf

I watched The Fellowship of the Ring on my flight, naturally, and this conversation struck me to the very core of my being.

So many things I would wish to be different. So many times has my mind tried to play the “I wish” or “If only” game. But dwelling on those wishes – those decisions that are not mine to make – does no one any good, least of all me.

This is what my trip is all about. Deciding what to do with the time that has been given to me. Then doing it.

  1. In a sense none of us chooses our journey in life initially at least. We do come to forks in the path and where we walk and the decisions we make are ours. However some things in our life we certainly have no choice about. There is no benefit to lifting our eyes and asking “why me?”, I often say that in life you must play the cards you are dealt.
