On my first day in Australia I watch the sun set behind the Blue Mountains, on the longest day of my life: I woke up on a Friday, got on a plane, and arrived Sunday morning.
The sun sets on my past, on the most difficult days, moments of my life. On a season of pain I never thought I would experience, never thought I could survive. A pain no one should ever have to experience.
The sun sets, every day, but today it feels as though it is setting just for me.
A day later I get up early to greet the sun. The new sun.
I watch the sun rise above the blue ocean horizon, on the first day of the rest of my life.
The sun rises on my future. On adventures to come. On freedom from pain. On opportunity. On a clean slate. On hope.
The sun rises every day, but today it feels as though it rises just for me.
That’s peace. Going to sleep watching the Sun, what a feeling…

It’s always darkest before the dawn. The new day awaits, and I hope I am right that you are feeling optimistic.
